Plays For Children
Christian Plays for Children on sale at Scripts By Warren
$30.00
This was done as a Children's Musical, but there was only one original song. The rest of the songs were borrowed from other places. It does work well as a musical with costumes. Joey is in the Children's Choir and he falls asleep after the performance and dreams that he is back in the time of Jesus' birth as one of the children of Bethlehem. Jonas and Deborah live in the Inn that is run by their parents. Mary and Joseph come by asking for a room...and get sent to the stable. The kids are all excited about a baby being born in their stable that night. Micah is a shepherd boy who wants to be able to stay up all night with his older brother and the other shepherds to watch the sheep.. so he hides out after he and the other children were sent home. Jedidiah is his brother, who loves to study the scriptures..and knows a lot about the prophesies concerning the Messiah. The angel appears to them and they immediately believe that this baby is the one they have been waiting for. They hurry to see the baby and worship him telling Joseph and Mary about the angels. As they leave, they see Jonas and Deborah and tell them, too. They tell their dad, who doesn't believe them that the baby is the Messiah, and sends them off to bed. Joey is wakened by his mother, and he tells her about his dream. He decides to give his heart to Jesus.
Cast of 22 (12 male, 10 female, some adults can be used), plus extras and Children's Choir. Depending on how many songs are used, time is 60-90 mins. Dramatic portion is about 25-30 mins. This can also be used as a short non-musical play.

This short puppet script could also be done as a live skit with actors. Five kids have gone to the movies and they are watching the previews. We see them react to horror film previews, romance, comedy and then finally a science fiction "end of the world" type of movie preview that leads them into a short discussion on the second coming of Christ and the final judgment.
Five puppet characters. About 7 or 8 minutes.

Eventually, there is a struggle over it and it gets broken. The rest of the scene is their discussion on whether they should tell their parents what they did.
Two child actors. (written as boy and girl, but 2 boys or 2 girls could also work) Only about 6-7 minutes.

This is a short skit for children and a narrator about kids who act arrogant toward strangers while playing freeze tag and cause an offense. They repeat the same scene with more loving attitudes toward the strangers and by just being friendly, they win them to the Lord. This is actually a scene from the play, "The Best Way To Live".
12 children plus extras and a narrator. Only about 5 minutes.

This CHRISTMAS sketch is our most popular holiday script. It is for mostly child actors. There are eleven children who are gathering to give their Sunday School teacher her Christmas presents. They decide to open them and see what everyone is getting her and one little girl is embarrassed because her gift is home-made. She is rediculed for being poor and making something so mediocre. The teacher shows up and teaches them about the first gifts and having the right giving attitude. She asks them about the very first gift that started it all, the gift of God's Son bringing the gift of eternal life. A happy ending with the poor girl's gift being praised by the teacher, and the mean child does a turn-around and makes a drastic change.
About 15-20 minutes in length. Easy to add or delete characters. (11 children, one adult)

A bunch of kids are left alone in a room to keep busy and keep quiet while their parents are in a church meeting. The older kids are in charge. They are playing games and working puzzles when some of the kids are getting bored and want to do something as a group. They try playing "follow the leader" and "rock, paper, scissors" but one girl suggests a game that really isn't a game but an exercise in thinking about what is important in their lives. She first asks what they want to be when they grow up, then asks them to name three life changing events that they have experienced and finally, name three things that they can't live without. Many of the answers are humorous, but some get serious and it leads to a discussion of where Jesus might fall on a list of what is important. This causes one child to admit that she has doubts about her own salvation.
16 actors (easily changed to more or less) 10 females and 6 males (gender can be changed easily) All children, ages may vary. About 30 mins. No set or scene changes.

Are you looking for a Christmas extravaganza? This Christian play has it all...toys that come to life, a kind old toy store owner, a villain who is trying to ruin Christmas (and the whole town forever) and a mystery. Merryton is a special town and they love to celebrate Christmas. The problem this year is that someone stole the star from the top of the town Christmas tree. The mayor hires a private detective and the mystery begins. Meanwhile, the toys in the toy store come to life and they are also trying to solve the mystery of the missing star. Many of the toys are based on recognizable characters and much of it is humorous. The villain is Mrs. Murray and her very strange grounds keeper who are trying to remove all religious references from the town's public activities. Meanwhile, while everyone is upset about the star and trying to guess "who-done-it", one Christian family is reaching out to the lonely toy store owner and trying to be his friend. They share the gospel with him over dinner and he gets saved. The British P. I. is about to solve the case, when the Christian puppeteer confesses to the crime to protect the real thief, the toy store owner. But as a new believer, he confesses everything and soon all is forgiven and the town has a happy ending. Well, except for Mrs. Murray. This would make a great musical, however you would have to provide your own songs, none are included here.
A large cast of over 50 plus extras. (speaking parts for 53) Good mixture of adults and children, or could be all children. Gender can be easily changed in many of the roles. Should run about 65 mins without songs.

In this EASTER skit, Mikey is having his annual Easter Egg hunt at his place and all his friends have come. But Mikey is focused too much on the Easter Bunny and gets into a discussion with one of the other kids on what Easter is really about. Then Mikey falls asleep and in his dream, the Easter Bunny comes and tells him that he is now saved and has changed his name to Resurrection Rabbit. He explains the true meaning of Easter, and tells the kids that instead of passing out candy, he now just tells people about Jesus. The salvation message is very clear.
6 child actors (boys or girls, it doesn't matter) and one teen or adult playing the bunny. About 10-12 minutes.

This THANKSGIVING DAY skit will also work for anytime, but the story begins as siblings, Jason and Tori are complaining about what Mom is fixing for Thanksgiving dinner. The setting then switches to a couple of homeless kids who just had a meal at a shelter and were very thankful. The story goes back and forth with ungrateful kids with nice clothes, and then the opposite response when a missionary kid, Adam passes out stuff to kids in a poor country. Adam comes back home and shares with the American kids what he learned about being grateful for what we have.
16 children (mixed) 10 minutes.

This skit takes place at Christmas, but the subject really has very little to do with Christmas. It could be used at any time. Rachel and Angela are sisters staying at their grandparents and they decide to explore the attic. They find an old trunk full of things that seemed to belong to their great-grandfather. As they begin to read newspaper clippings, they find out that he was arrested for murder back in 1939, while in college. This becomes a mystery that they are determined to solve and little brother, Jake joins them as they uncover the story of how their great-grandfather found the Lord while in jail waiting for his trial. What sounded bad at first, turned into something that would change the spirituality of their entire family forever!
3 children (2 girls and 1 boy, but could be easily altered) About 15-17 minutes.
