Christmas - 20 - 30 Minutes
Short Christmas plays sold at Scripts By Warren
$20.00
The war in Iraq (or any war for that matter) makes Christmas a difficult time for soldiers and their families back home. In this play, with a new, lower price, we try to imagine this conflict from both sides. The soldiers are shown as happy to receive mail from home and trying not to be sad about being gone. The families back home gather together for support and work on projects and talk about their relations in the service. It goes back and forth between with a positive beat, trying not to become depressing. Some of the Christian soldiers witness to a vocal unbeliever in the group.

This short play was written as a drama to go along with a choir cantata for Christmas. There are only three actresses, a grandmother and two teenage girls. Becky always spends a weekend with her grandmother at Christmas time and this year, she gets to bring along her best friend. They have a great time doing holiday type things and Becky's friend learns a lot about the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to have Jesus put a song in your heart.

This is a short play that was written as a narration to a choir performance, but it can also be done as a short play by itself. The Widow Perkins is all alone and she talks to the audience quite a bit as a narrator. She also interacts with children and other actors as a little story unfolds about reaching out to others at Christmas time. We are reminded how much even a little thing means to someone who is all alone. There are places in the script where musical numbers can be added. Without the songs it would only be about 30 mins.
4 adults (2 men, 2 women) and a few children and some children carollers. One set.. no scene changes.

A simple Christmas play with a few young people and adults that is easy to do with a small cast and not much preparation. In this story, best friends, Taylor and Emily have a falling out when Emily thinks that Taylor and her sister are spreading false rumors about her brother, Tanner. Tanner isn't bothered, but Emily takes a strong stand for him and so does their mother. That pitches her against the other mother and two families are divided. Tanner is sneaky and manages to get the two friends together and they talk and work things out, but then they have to prove to their moms that all is okay, so they trick them in to getting together, too and all is resolved at the end with the kids using the Christmas story as the basis for understanding what Christian love is all about and why Jesus came and how he wants us to live. You can add songs and make it a nice program with music. The songs are not included, you need to find your own.
Written as 1 male and 7 females, (4 adults, 4 youth) but some of the genders can be changed to male. About 20-22 mins.

A great price for this half hour Christmas drama! Tommy and his mother have volunteered to ring the bell and ask for coins to go in the Salvation Army kettle at Christmas. Tommy doesn't understand why they do it and can't see what good it does. A visit to a homeless shelter really opens up Tommy's eyes and at the same time we meet a young mother who is working on a possible reconciliation with her parents. She has a little girl who they don't even know about and her recent conversion to Christ is helping her to make some good changes in her life. It all ends happy with Tommy and his mother back at the kettle as she shares with him about God's gift to us at Christmas...Jesus as our Savior.
Cast of 12 plus extras. (5 males, 4 females, 3 children) Gender can be adjusted some. Close to 30 min.

This short play will fit nicely with your choir Christmas music to make a cantata, or it can work by itself as a strong drama for your Christmas program. Cindy has been trying to hold her marriage together for the sake of their son, and because of her husband's political aspirations. But she is coming to the end of her rope and wants out as she is also seeking for real peace in her life. Filled with dramatic scenes of confrontations between the couple, this play does wrap up nicely with both of them finding Christ and finding peace. The Christmas theme is not strong and can be easily removed for a non-seasonal script. Also, there is a long version with more characters located on this site.
3 actors (2 male and 1 female) Just under 30 minutes without any music.

This CHRISTMAS sketch is our most popular holiday script. It is for mostly child actors. There are eleven children who are gathering to give their Sunday School teacher her Christmas presents. They decide to open them and see what everyone is getting her and one little girl is embarrassed because her gift is home-made. She is rediculed for being poor and making something so mediocre. The teacher shows up and teaches them about the first gifts and having the right giving attitude. She asks them about the very first gift that started it all, the gift of God's Son bringing the gift of eternal life. A happy ending with the poor girl's gift being praised by the teacher, and the mean child does a turn-around and makes a drastic change.
About 15-20 minutes in length. Easy to add or delete characters. (11 children, one adult)

This is a play about coming to grandma's house for Christmas. It takes place in the 50's with costumes, music and lines that are reminiscent of old TV shows. Alexis (Alex) was raised by Nana, and she is home from college. Nana hopes that her strong Christian faith will have an influence on her family who seem to have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas. Mostly kids in this show with lots of cousins and typical bickering that you might find when lots of family is together. The play gets serious at the end when Alex has a chance to really share with her cousins about what Jesus did for us and His gift at Christmas.
Cast of 14. (Only 4 older adults, several small children and only 2 male parts, though some of the children could be changed to boys. Most of the actors need to be young adult or teen) About 30 minutes.

It's time for the Christmas program, but the children leaders are too busy to do it. Since the young people did it a few years back, they invite the same bunch in and ask them to help the younger kids put on the Christmas story. So, with teens in charge, they run into a few problems trying to get the kids to accept their roles and also remembering how the story goes and where to find it all in the Bible. Leadership gets passed around as someone has to go look for a missing kid in the church. It all turns out well at the end with a nice narrated Christmas story.
Cast of 20. (4 adults, 6 teens, 9 children, 1 narrator, plus extras) About 30-35 mins.

A Christmas play about a church putting on a Christmas play. Lester is a young man who has come to visit his relatives who go to a good church and are strong Christians. He is very impressed by everyone he meets and how devoted they are to God. Much of the play takes place during choir rehearsal with the choir sitting in the choir loft. The director of the play is also the director of the choir and he deals with his actress playing Mary, losing her voice, and the girl filling in is not as good, so Millicent (playing Elizabeth) loses her temper, becoming impatient with the whole thing. The director, Mr. Campbell, prays and Millicent asks everyone to forgive her outburst. Later at home, Lester comments on what happened. His uncle shares the gospel with him and leads him to Christ, and his cousin Millicent admits that she doesn't believe she was really saved, and joins with him. Final scene has Lester asking lots of questions at the last rehearsal, which are answered by Forrest, the stage hand. Strong evangelical message. Many choir numbers can be added to balance out the story. Some suggestions are in the script.
Cast of 16-18 (mostly teen and adult - 4 male, 4 female, 5 children) plus extras, plus choir. Dramatic portion takes about 20-25 mins.

This is a 30 min youth drama that can be easily turned into a musical. There are obvious places for songs that are mentioned throughout the script. You would need to come up with your own songs. This story is about a small group of young people who are going on Christmas break and decide to go shopping together at the mall. (You can add a fun shopping video) On the way home, there is a car crash and one boy is left in critical condition. (the strong Christian) The other boy in the car (Tanner) is fine and he waits at the hospital for his friends to come and they worry about their friend. Eventually, they go for a walk and come by a living nativity and they discuss the true meaning of Christmas and the gospel message with the actors playing Mary and Joseph. At the end, they see on the hospital TV that their friend died, but his organs are donated so others would live. This was a custom script written for a church doing a walk-through nativity, but it can be adapted for other uses as well. Mainly, it is 6 sketches with a narrator between and containing only one or 2 characters in each sketch. The first three are monologues involving a boy who gave up his donkey, a shepherd and the Innkeeper, each mentioning the special gift. Then the 4th one is Mary and Joseph discussing their new son, The Messiah, and the last two are monologues from the narrator, who is Joanna from the Easter Story. She tells her story about the resurrection, and a final strong evangelical message inviting folks to receive the "gift" being offered to them.
Each sketch is 3-4 minutes and the entire script about 25 minutes. Cast of 7 (2 children, one young adult, 2 men and 2 women.)

This is a short and sweet story about a young widow who brings her daughter to a Christmas program rehearsal and finds salvation before she goes home. This can be done as a drama that goes with a musical, or alone as just a drama. A college student and five high school students visit an orphanage at Christmas time to bring gifts to the kids. While they wait for the kids to come in, they discuss why they are there and other things and some honest feelings come out that are a bit cynical. When the kids come in, (at least five of the children have speaking parts) they get involved in several discussions involving big brother and sister plans, food and finally, a telling of the Christmas story. The kids enjoy hearing how Jesus was born and then the gospel is shared and understood by at least one of the children. There is humor mixed in as one of the teen girls is a bit simple minded and goes into her own world and one of the children has an imaginary friend. Another kid just keeps asking for food. Mostly serious as one of the teens discovers she has a heart for orphans.
Cast of 11 (4 males, 7 females) Some of the genders can be changed. There can be extras with no lines. About 25-28 mins.

This Christmas play takes place in the old west and is loosely based on "A Christmas Carol". It is written by Justin Orman, a relative of mine who has based his main character, Silas Talbot, on Scrooge. Silas has no time for God or for Christmas as the holiday approaches. People owe him money, and his hired hands want Christmas day off. He grumbles about everything till he gets word that his brother died. Now he has something to think about and a stranger in town comes along and hears Silas' life story. Salvation comes to Silas and everyone around him is pleased to see the changed man.
